introduction
Busha is a fintech startup that provides a platform for buying, selling, and storing cryptocurrencies. The company's admin software is a crucial tool for managing user accounts, transactions, and compliance. However, the previous software design was outdated, cluttered, and confusing, which led to inefficiencies and user frustration. As a UX designer at Busha, I was tasked with redesigning the admin software to improve usability, efficiency, and scalability.
overview
The previous admin software had several usability issues, including poor information architecture, unclear navigation, and inconsistent interface elements. Moreover, the software lacked essential features for compliance and risk management, such as transaction monitoring, KYC/AML checks, and reporting. To address these challenges, I collaborated with the product team, the engineering team, and the compliance team to define the scope of the redesign and align the goals and requirements.
The redesign of the Busha admin section is aimed at solving multiple problems we faced using the old one. Before the redesign, we have been using a design system that will pass as archaic in today’s world. So we decided to bring in a new design system, Wanda, to introduce the feel of newness and improve usability.
-I will not be sharing screenshots of the finished product due to legal constraints. However, there will be little hints as to what it looks like in the ones I share.
We were able to identify 3 issues with the old design.
Looks old — the former design was old and inefficient. it was done way before the company had many users and needed an upgrade.
Not User friendly — It was a hectic routine whenever admins had to carry out simple tasks on the old platform as the design was really not useable.
Slow — it takes a lot of time and effort to perform even the most basic things. this is both an engineering and design issue.

We converted our key problems into opportunities to solve during the redesign.
Old → New interface
The user interface of the admin page should be visually refreshed and use the new Wanda design system, which is close in quality to Polaris of Shopify.
Non-usable → User friendly
The new design should be simple, clean, intuitive, and reliable from sign-up to the very end of each task to be done.
Slow → Fast
The redesign should take lesser time to perform actions taken by admins. We need to eliminate unnecessary actions and ensure the software is as lightweight as possible so it loads faster.
Research & Analysis
To understand the users' needs and pain points, I conducted user interviews, surveys, and usability tests with various stakeholders, including customer support agents, compliance analysts, and senior management. Based on the research insights, I created user personas, user journeys, and use cases to guide the design process. I also analyzed the competitors' admin software to identify best practices and opportunities for differentiation.
Design Process
Using a user-centered design approach, I created wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that reflected the users' feedback and the stakeholders' requirements. I used design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and InVision to iterate and test the designs with the stakeholders. I also worked closely with the engineering team to ensure the feasibility and scalability of the designs. The final design solutions included a streamlined dashboard, a customizable transaction monitoring module, an integrated KYC/AML verification process, and a comprehensive reporting dashboard.

Results
The new admin software design received positive feedback from the stakeholders, including the customer support agents, the compliance team, and the senior management. The new design reduced the time and effort required to perform administrative tasks, improved the accuracy and completeness of compliance checks, and provided a more intuitive and informative user experience. The new software also increased the scalability and flexibility of the platform, enabling Busha to expand its user base and product offerings.
Lessons learned & Conclusion
Through this project, I learned the importance of collaboration, empathy, and user feedback in the design process. I also learned the technical and regulatory challenges of designing software for the cryptocurrency industry. To improve future similar projects, I recommend conducting more extensive user research and involving the stakeholders earlier in the design process.
The redesign of the Busha admin software has significantly improved the user experience, compliance, and scalability of the platform. By adopting a user-centered design approach, collaborating with the stakeholders, and leveraging the latest design tools and techniques, I was able to deliver a successful design solution that met the users' needs and the company's goals.
